In a peaceful village, there lived two siblings, Arjun and Meera. One sunny afternoon, while playing near the edge of a forest, they spotted a tiny, shimmering golden fruit hanging from a high branch. It looked magical. Arjun reached out to grab it, but the branch was resting on a delicate patch of rare wildflowers. To reach the fruit, he would have to crush the beautiful flowers under his weight. Meera whispered, 'Arjun, if we take this tiny joy by hurting these flowers, will we ever feel truly happy again?' Arjun paused. He realized that the fleeting thrill of the golden fruit wasn't worth destroying something beautiful and right. He stepped back and decided to leave it alone. A little later, a gentle breeze shook the tree, and several ripe, sweet fruits fell right at their feet. Arjun and Meera shared the delicious fruit, feeling a sense of peace and joy that the golden fruit could never have given them. By choosing virtue over a small temptation, they found lasting happiness.
The Golden Fruit and True Happiness
The story illustrates that chasing small, selfish pleasures through wrong means prevents one from achieving higher, lasting joy. Those who desire the higher pleasures (of heaven) will not act unjustly through desire of the trifling joy. (in this life.)
