In a peaceful village, a young girl named Kavimathi lived with her father, a farmer. One sunny afternoon, while playing in the garden, Kavimathi caught a beautiful, colorful butterfly in her hands. As she watched it struggle to flap its wings, a mischievous thought crossed her mind: 'I will keep it in a glass jar so I can watch it forever.' But as she saw the tiny creature trembling in fear, her heart sank. Her father, who was watching from nearby, walked over and spoke softly, 'Kavimathi, every living being deserves to live freely. The greatest virtue is to refrain from harming any life. And once you learn to respect life, you must also learn to always speak the truth.' Kavimathi realized her mistake. She gently opened her hands, letting the butterfly fly toward the sky. Watching it soar freely brought her a joy that keeping it in a jar never could. From that day on, Kavimathi vowed to protect all living things and to always live with honesty.
Kavimathi's Compassion
The story illustrates that avoiding harm to living beings is the foremost good, followed by the importance of truth. Not to destroy life is an incomparably (great) good next to it in goodness ranks freedom from falsehood
