In a peaceful village lived a young boy named Arjun. Arjun had a burning desire to win every competition. His best friend, Rohan, was a boy who always played by the rules. One summer, the village announced a grand running race. Arjun wanted to win so badly that he decided to take a shortcut—not by running faster, but by creating a small obstacle. He placed a loose stone in a corner of the track where he knew others would trip. During the race, Rohan stumbled over the stone and fell. Arjun didn't look back; he sprinted ahead and crossed the finish line first. The villagers cheered and gave him a shiny trophy. But as Arjun held the trophy, his heart felt heavy. He couldn't enjoy the applause because he kept seeing Rohan's hurt face. The victory he had dreamed of felt like a burden. He realized that winning through deceit brought him no joy, only regret. That evening, Arjun went to Rohan, apologized sincerely, and learned that a clean heart is more valuable than any gold medal.
The Bitter Taste of a Wrong Victory
The story illustrates that even if one succeeds in forbidden or dishonest acts, the resulting guilt and sorrow negate the achievement, mirroring the Kural. The actions of those, who have not desisted from doing deeds forbidden (by the great), will, even if they succeed, cause them sorrow
