Once, in a peaceful kingdom, there lived a young man named Arjun. He was known for his vast knowledge and his calm nature. One day, a great conflict arose between two neighboring kingdoms over a shared river. The kings were angry, and war seemed inevitable. The King of Arjun's land chose Arjun to be the messenger to deliver a peace proposal. When Arjun entered the rival King's court, the atmosphere was heavy with tension. The soldiers glared at him, and the King looked furious. Many expected Arjun to tremble in fear, but he remained composed. He didn't just rush into his speech; he observed the mood of the room. He waited for the right moment when the King's anger had slightly cooled. He spoke with clarity and grace, using words that appealed to the King's sense of justice rather than his pride. Because he knew exactly what to say and when to say it, the angry King listened. By the end of the meeting, a treaty was signed. Arjun had turned a potential war into a lasting friendship through his wisdom and courage.
The Wise Messenger
The story illustrates the Kural by showing how Arjun uses his learning, remains unafraid of angry looks, and employs the right words at the right time. He is an ambassador who having studied (politics) talks impressively, is not afraid of angry looks, and knows (to employ) the art suited to the time
