In a peaceful village lived a talented sculptor named Arjun. Arjun could breathe life into stone, but he had a secret weakness: he was deeply afraid of his wife, Meera. Whenever Meera expressed a whim, Arjun would abandon his work or his plans just to please her, fearing her anger. One day, the King announced a grand competition to carve a magnificent statue for the royal palace. It was the opportunity of a lifetime. However, Meera insisted that Arjun stay home and help with the household chores, fearing he would be away for too long. Paralyzed by the fear of Meera's reaction, Arjun declined the King's offer. The villagers, who admired his art, whispered, 'A man who cannot stand firm in his own home cannot lead a great project.' Realizing his mistake, Arjun gathered his courage. He sat Meera down and explained how much this meant for their future. Seeing his passion, Meera realized her mistake and promised to support him. Arjun went on to carve the most beautiful statue the kingdom had ever seen.
The Sculptor's Courage
The story illustrates that a man who is dominated by fear of his wife cannot achieve greatness or earn public respect, as per the Kural. The undertaking of one, who fears his wife and is therefore destitute of (bliss), will never be applauded
