In a peaceful village lived a boy named Arjun. His family was well-known and respected by everyone because they were always kind and helpful to others. One day, a new student named Leo joined Arjun's school. Leo came from a very humble background, but he was incredibly bright and gentle. During a school science competition, Arjun was desperate to win. He noticed that Leo had a special model that was perfect for the project. In a moment of jealousy, Arjun hid Leo's model and told the teacher that Leo had lost it on purpose to avoid competing. Leo was unfairly punished. However, the truth soon came out when another student saw what happened. The village elders, who knew Arjun's family well, felt deeply saddened. They told Arjun, 'Having a great name is not about your ancestors; it is about how you treat others. By acting without kindness, you have brought doubt upon your family's honor.' Realizing his mistake, Arjun felt a heavy heart. He went to Leo, apologized sincerely, and helped him rebuild his project. Arjun learned that true nobility lies in a heart full of affection and honesty.
The True Mark of Greatness
The story reflects the Kural by showing that even if one belongs to a noble family, a lack of affection and integrity brings shame to their lineage. If one of a good family betrays want of affection, his descent from it will be called in question
