In a cozy little village lived a young girl named Maya. Her best friend in the whole world was her playful puppy, Bruno. Maya loved watching Bruno run around the garden, her eyes always following his every move with excitement. One sunny afternoon, Bruno went exploring and came back covered in mud from head to toe. Maya gasped in horror. 'Oh no, Bruno! Look at you!' she cried, tears welling up in her eyes. She began to sob while wiping the mud off his face with her handkerchief. Her father, watching from the porch, walked over with a gentle smile. 'Maya,' he said softly, 'just a moment ago, your eyes were searching the garden eagerly, waiting to see that messy, energetic puppy. Now that he is finally here, you are crying because he is a little dirty. Isn't it funny how we crave what we eventually weep for?' Maya paused, wiped her eyes, and looked at Bruno. She realized her father was right; she had wanted him back so much, and now she was upset by the very thing that showed he had been playing. She laughed and gave Bruno a big hug.
The Eyes' Little Trick
The story mirrors the Kural by showing how Maya eagerly sought her puppy, only to be moved to tears by the reality of his arrival. They themselves looked eagerly (on him) and now they weep. Is not this to be laughed at ?
