The Boy and the Endless Hunger

In a bright little village lived a boy named Arjun. Arjun had a habit of always wanting more. If he got a new toy, he immediately wanted a bigger one. If he ate a sweet, he wanted a whole box of them. This constant wanting made him feel restless and unhappy. One afternoon, his grandfather, an old wise man named Madhav, noticed Arjun looking sadly at a neighbor's shiny new bicycle. Madhav called him over and handed him a small, empty wooden bowl. 'Arjun,' he said, 'try to fill this bowl with water from the river, but you must do it without letting a single drop spill.' Arjun tried hard, but as he ran, the water splashed out, leaving the bowl mostly empty. 'Desire is like this water, Arjun,' Madhav explained gently. 'The more you chase it, the more it slips through your fingers, leaving you thirsty. But if you learn to be content with what you have, your heart will become like a deep, calm lake that no wind can disturb.' Arjun realized that his constant chasing was making him tired. He decided to focus on the joy of the things he already owned. Slowly, the restlessness left him, replaced by a lasting sense of peace.
