In a peaceful valley lived a young boy named Leo and his father, Thomas. Thomas was known for his kindness. One evening, Leo noticed his father keeping a small wooden box filled with coins. A strange feeling began to grow in Leo's heart. He thought, 'This is ours, and we should never let anyone else touch it.' A few days later, when Thomas went to help a neighbor rebuild a broken fence, Leo tried to stop him. 'Father, why are we giving our hard-earned money away?' he asked anxiously. Thomas sat Leo down and said softly, 'Leo, being angry or telling a lie is a mistake, but the greed that makes you hold onto things so tightly that you forget to be kind—that is the greatest flaw of all. It turns your heart into a prison.' Leo looked at the box and then at his father's kind face. He realized that holding onto things too tightly was making him unhappy. From that day on, he learned that true wealth is found in sharing.
The Golden Trap
The story illustrates that avarice (greed) is a unique and supreme fault that isolates the soul, reflecting the Kural. Griping avarice is not to be reckoned as one among other faults; (it stands alone - greater than all)
