In a peaceful village lived a kind-hearted girl named Kavita. She was known for her loyalty and pure intentions. Her closest friend was Meera, a girl who was always looking for something better. One summer, a wealthy merchant visited their village, bringing with him glittering jewels and fine silks. While Kavita spent her time helping Meera with her studies and sharing her simple joys, Meera's mind was elsewhere. Even when Meera sat closely by Kavita, leaning her head on Kavita's shoulder during their long walks, her eyes were constantly searching the merchant's caravan for gold and luxury. Meera would act like a devoted friend, but her heart was busy coveting the lives of others. One evening, as they sat under a banyan tree, Kavita softly said, 'Meera, you lean on my shoulder, but your heart is chasing shadows. A true friend stays with you in spirit, not just in presence.' Meera realized that her greed had made her a stranger to her own friendship. She began the journey of learning to value what she truly had.
The Heart That Wandered
The story illustrates the Kural by showing how Meera's physical presence with Kavita was hollow because her desires were focused on others. Those who are destitute of a perfectly (reformed) mind will covet the shoulders of those who embrace (them) while their hearts covet other things
