The Shadow of Giving

In a peaceful valley lived a wealthy man named Samuel. Samuel had vast fields and chests full of gold, but he had a heart as hard as stone. He was a miser who refused to help anyone, even when they were in desperate need. The villagers avoided him, for they knew Samuel’s heart was closed to kindness. One summer, a terrible drought hit the valley. The wells ran dry, and the crops withered away. The villagers struggled to find even a single meal. Samuel, however, sat atop his mountain of grain, locking his granary tightly. 'If I give even a handful, I will become poor,' he whispered to himself. One stormy night, a sudden fire broke out in Samuel's storehouse. He tried to save his gold, but the flames were too fast. By morning, his wealth was nothing but ash. Samuel sat in the ruins, weeping. An old neighbor approached him and said softly, 'Samuel, you spent your life guarding things that cannot guard you. If you had shared your wealth, the people would have stood by you today. What you thought was yours has vanished, leaving you with nothing.' Samuel finally understood that true wealth is not what we hold, but what we give.
