The Joy of Giving

In a small, peaceful village lived a young boy named Arjun. Arjun’s family was very poor, and sometimes they struggled to meet their basic needs. One afternoon, his mother looked worried because they had no money to buy lentils for their dinner. Arjun wanted to help. He went to his small wooden box and found a few coins he had saved. As he walked toward the market, he saw an old man sitting under a tree, looking very tired and thirsty. Without a second thought, Arjun used some of his coins to buy a cool drink for the man. The old man smiled warmly and said, 'Thank you, little one. You have a kind soul.' Seeing that smile made Arjun feel a warmth in his heart that he had never felt before. He then used the remaining coins to buy the lentils for his mother. Even though he had very little, the act of helping someone without any regret or sadness brought him immense joy. He realized that even a small act of giving, when done without grief, feels like a great treasure.
