One afternoon, while sitting under a mango tree, Nila pointed to a ripe fruit. 'Look, Ilango,' she sighed, 'this mango looks delicious, but it has a hard stone inside. You can never enjoy the whole thing without hitting that seed.' Ilango smiled gently and took her hand. 'Nila, true love is not like this mango. When two people truly belong to each other and cherish one another, their joy is like a fruit without a stone. There are no hard obstacles or bitterness to break the sweetness. Their togetherness makes life seamless and pure.' Looking into Ilango's eyes, Nila felt a profound sense of security. She realized that because their hearts beat as one, their happiness would always be smooth and sweet, free from the 'stones' of doubt or distance.
The Seedless Fruit of Love
The story illustrates the Kural's metaphor that reciprocal love provides a joy as smooth and pleasant as a seedless fruit. The women who are beloved by those whom they love, have they have not got the stone-less fruit of sexual delight ?
