In a misty valley, a shepherd named Ravi lived with his flock of sheep. For weeks, Ravi had been losing his lambs to a sneaky fox that lurked in the shadows. He felt helpless and frustrated.
One morning, feeling desperate, Ravi looked up at the sky and made a vow. 'O Great Spirit, if the fox is caught today, I will offer one of my finest sheep as a sacrifice to you!' he shouted.
Not long after, a loud rustling came from the thick bushes. Ravi’s heart raced with excitement. 'The fox is finally here!' he thought. But as he rushed to see, his excitement turned into pure terror. It wasn't a small fox; it was a massive mountain lion, lunging through the grass with a lamb in its jaws!
Panicked, Ravi fell to his knees. He realized his foolish promise was now a trap. 'Please!' he cried out, 'I only meant to offer a sheep for the fox. Now that a lion is here, I will offer a whole cow instead! Just please, make it go away!'
He tried to bargain and increase his offer, but the situation was beyond his control. The mountain lion vanished into the deep woods with its prey. Ravi sat alone in the silence, realizing that his greed and his reckless words had brought him no peace, only regret.
