In a lush, green forest, there lived a bright and spirited rooster named Rusty. Rusty was known throughout the woods for his sharp mind and watchful eyes. One evening, as the golden sun began to set, Rusty finished his meal and flew up to the highest branch of a sturdy mango tree to settle in for the night.
Unbeknownst to him, a sly fox named Felix was lurking in the shadows below. Felix had been watching Rusty for a while, and his stomach growled at the sight of the plump bird. 'If only I could trick that rooster into coming down,' Felix thought greedily, 'I would have a magnificent feast tonight!'
Felix knew he couldn't climb the tree, so he decided to use his wits instead. He put on his kindest voice and called out, "Oh, dear Rusty! Have you heard the wonderful news?"
Rusty peered down from his perch, feeling cautious. "What news is it, Felix? Why are you calling so loudly?" he asked.
Felix smiled widely, pretending to be overjoyed. "It is the best news ever! A great peace has fallen over the forest. The lions, the wolves, and even the birds have all agreed to live in harmony. No animal will hurt another anymore! Why don't you come down so we can celebrate this new era of friendship together?"
Rusty was not easily fooled. He thought to himself, 'A fox talking about peace? That sounds like a trap.' He knew he had to respond cleverly to stay safe.
"That sounds lovely, Felix!" Rusty replied calmly. "But wait, look over there near the bushes! I see a large pack of hunting dogs running this way. Let's go down and tell them the good news so they can join our friendship circle too!"
At the mention of hunting dogs, Felix’s eyes widened in terror. His heart began to race. "Hunting dogs? Here?" he stammered, his confidence vanishing instantly.
Rusty tilted his head and asked, "Why are you acting so strange, Felix? You just said the forest is peaceful. Why are you so afraid?"
Felix didn't wait to answer. He turned and bolted into the thicket, shouting back, "Maybe those dogs haven't heard the news yet! They might still think I'm dinner!"
Rusty watched the fox disappear and let out a satisfied sigh. He tucked his head under his wing, happy that his quick thinking had kept him safe.
