In a peaceful farmyard lived a bright, colorful hen. Near the farm, a stray dog often wandered around. This dog was very greedy. Every night, while the farm was asleep, the dog would sneak into the hen's coop and steal her fresh eggs to eat.
The hen was very sad to see her eggs disappearing one by one. 'Who is taking my eggs?' she wondered anxiously. One night, she hid behind a hay bale and watched as the dog crept in and swallowed an egg whole. The hen realized the sneaky dog was the thief.
The hen decided to teach the dog a lesson. The next morning, she went to a small pond nearby and found a large, smooth, and hard snail shell. To the hen, it looked just like a giant egg. She carefully placed the shell inside her nesting box.
That night, the dog arrived at the coop again. When it saw the large, round shape, its eyes widened with greed. 'What a magnificent egg!' the dog thought. Just as the dog opened its mouth to grab it, the hen let out a loud, piercing 'Cock-a-doodle-doo!'
Terrified that the farmer would wake up and catch it, the dog panicked. Instead of running away, it swallowed the large object in one desperate gulp to hide the evidence. But it wasn't an egg—it was the hard snail shell! The shell got stuck in the dog's throat, making it cough and struggle. The greedy dog learned the hard way that being hasty and dishonest leads to trouble.
Moral
Haste makes waste, and greed leads to trouble.
