In a peaceful village lived a farmer named Somu and his wife, Meena. Somu worked hard in the fields every day, but he had a habit of complaining. Whenever he returned home, he would boast, "Look at how much sweat I have shed today! Without my hard work, this farm would turn into a desert!"
He often spoke unkindly to Meena. "What do you actually do all day?" he would mock. "You just sit inside the house while I struggle under the scorching sun!"
One morning, Meena decided to teach him a lesson. "Somu, let's swap roles today. You take care of all the household chores, and I will go to the fields to help with the farming," she suggested calmly.
Somu laughed dismissively. "That sounds easy enough. I'll show you how simple housework is!"
As soon as Meena left for the farm, Somu began his tasks. He started by cleaning the house, but he soon realized that scrubbing floors and dusting every corner was much more exhausting than he had imagined. Next, he went to the shed to feed the cows and fetch water. The heavy buckets and the stubborn animals made him stumble and sweat.
By lunchtime, the real challenge began. Preparing a meal, cleaning vegetables, and managing the kitchen was a whirlwind of activity. As he tried to wash the dishes and clean the clothes, his hands began to ache, and his back felt stiff. He realized that the house never stayed clean for long and required constant effort.
When Meena returned in the evening, she found Somu sitting exhausted on the porch. He looked at her with newfound respect. "Meena, please forgive me," he said softly. "I thought your work was easy, but I see now that you manage a thousand tasks with incredible strength. I was wrong to undervalge you."
From that day on, Somu never complained again. Instead, he made sure to help Meena, understanding that every job, whether in the field or in the home, holds great value.
