In a lush, green countryside, lived a little mouse named Sam. Sam was content with his simple life, nibbling on grains and seeds found in the golden fields. His best friend, Max, lived a very different life in a grand mansion in the heart of a bustling city.
One sunny afternoon, Max invited Sam to visit the city. "You must see how the world lives, Sam!" Max exclaimed. When Sam arrived, Max led him into a magnificent dining hall. The table was covered with crumbs of fine cheese, sweet honey cakes, and exotic fruits. It was a feast unlike anything Sam had ever seen.
"Isn't it wonderful?" Max asked eagerly. "In the village, you only have dry grains. Here, every bite is a celebration! Why don't you stay with me forever?"
Sam looked at the delicious food, but his heart was racing. Just as he reached for a piece of cheese, a loud 'CRASH!' echoed through the room. Someone was walking heavily toward the kitchen.
"Hide! Quickly!" Max whispered in terror. Both mice scrambled into a narrow crack in the wall, trembling in the darkness. They waited, hearts pounding, as the heavy footsteps of a large house cat paced just inches away. The cat's claws scraped against the floor, making a terrifying sound. After a long, agonizing wait, the cat finally moved away.
Sam emerged from the hiding spot, his whiskers twitching with fear. "Max," Sam said softly, "the food here is truly magnificent. But I cannot enjoy it if I am constantly looking over my shoulder in fear."
Max looked puzzled, but Sam continued, "I would rather eat my simple grains in peace in the fields than feast on gold in a place where I am never safe. I am going home."
With a heavy heart but a clear mind, Sam headed back to the quiet, safe fields of the countryside.
Moral
A simple life in peace is better than a luxurious life in fear.
