In a vast, green forest, a mighty Lion lived alongside a clever Fox and a gentle Donkey. One sunny morning, they decided to work together to find food, as hunting alone had become difficult. They made a pact: the Donkey would use its keen ears to find tracks, the Fox would guide the way and prevent the prey from escaping, and the Lion would use its strength to complete the hunt. They agreed to share the reward equally.
After searching for a while, the Donkey spotted fresh tracks leading toward a thicket. 'There is something large ahead!' the Donkey brayed excitedly. The Fox quickly dashed ahead to circle around the bushes, ensuring no animal could slip away. Seeing the opening, the Lion pounced with incredible speed and successfully caught a large deer.
'Now, let us divide the feast,' the Lion commanded. He turned to the Donkey and said, 'Divide this fairly among the three of us.' Being a simple and honest creature, the Donkey carefully sliced the meat into three perfectly equal portions. However, the Lion grew angry. 'I am the King! I did all the hard work! Why should I get the same as a lowly Donkey?' In a fit of rage, the Lion roared and chased the terrified Donkey far away into the deep woods.
Next, the Lion turned to the Fox. 'You divide it this time,' he growled. 'But make sure I get the lion's share!' The Fox nodded calmly. He placed a massive portion of meat in front of the Lion and kept only two tiny scraps for himself and the absent Donkey. The Lion, feeling very satisfied, praised the Fox, 'You are truly wise and generous, Fox! You know how to respect a King!'
The Fox smiled subtly and pointed toward the direction where the Donkey had fled. 'The Donkey learned his lesson about equality the hard way, Great King. I have simply learned how to stay on your good side.' The Lion realized the Fox's cleverness and decided to be more mindful of his temper.
