In a lush green forest, a little frog named Pip and a tiny mouse named Squeak were the best of friends. They spent their days playing near a sparkling pond. However, one summer, a terrible drought hit the forest, and their beloved pond dried up into a patch of cracked mud.
Seeing Pip looking weak from thirst, Squeak decided to be brave. He traveled far across the forest floor, searching through bushes and stones. Finally, he discovered a hidden, deep pool of water nestled between two large rocks. He rushed back to find Pip and led him to this wonderful new home.
At first, they were overjoyed. But as they settled in, a dark cloud of ego began to grow between them.
"I am the one who found this place!" Squeak declared, puffing out his chest. "This pool belongs to me, and I shall be its master!"
Pip, feeling insulted, splashed the water angrily. "You only stand on the edge, Squeak. I am the one who swims and breathes in this water. I am the true king of this pool!"
What started as a small argument quickly spiraled out of control. Squeak called upon his mouse cousins to defend his territory, and Pip summoned his frog brothers to protect his kingdom. Soon, the banks were crowded with mice and the water was churning with frogs, all fighting for dominance.
High above, a hungry hawk had been watching the commotion. While the mice and frogs were too busy arguing to notice the shadow growing over them, the hawk swooped down with terrifying speed. It picked them off one by one, turning their chaotic battle into a tragedy.
By the time the dust settled, the prideful mice and frogs were gone. Their foolish fight for power had cost them everything, leaving the beautiful pool silent once again.
