In a peaceful valley lived a wise farmer named Samuel. He had three sons: Leo, Max, and Sam. While the boys were hardworking, they had one major flaw—they could never agree on anything. Whether it was chores or toys, they were constantly arguing, which made their father's life very difficult.
One sunny afternoon, Samuel decided to teach them a lesson they would never forget. He gathered several thick, sturdy wooden sticks and tied them tightly together with a strong hemp rope.
'Listen, my sons,' Samuel called them over. 'I have a challenge for you. Whoever can break this bundle of sticks will receive a special reward.'
Leo, the eldest, stepped forward confidently. He gripped the bundle and strained with all his might, his face turning red. But the sticks wouldn't even bend. Next was Max, who tried using his knees to apply pressure, yet the bundle remained unbroken. Finally, Sam tried his best, but the sticks were as solid as a single piece of wood.
'It's impossible, Father!' Max complained, wiping sweat from his forehead. 'No one can break these sticks when they are tied together.'
Samuel smiled gently and untied the rope. 'Now, try breaking them one by one.'
The boys picked up the individual sticks. With a simple snap, each stick broke easily in their hands. They looked at each other in surprise.
'Do you see?' Samuel explained. 'When you are alone and divided, you are like these single sticks—easy to break by life's troubles. But when you stand together, supporting one another, you are like the bundle. Unbreakable and strong.'
The three brothers realized their mistake. They hugged each other and promised to work as a team from that day forward.
