In a bustling town lived a young man named Arjun. He was ambitious and hardworking, always dreaming of accumulating vast wealth. Over the years, he achieved great success and built a magnificent mansion. Yet, despite his riches, Arjun felt a strange emptiness inside. One evening, while walking through a quiet forest, he met an old sage named Madhav. Madhav lived a very simple life, with nothing but a small hut and a calm smile. Curious, Arjun asked, 'Master, I have everything the world offers, yet I am restless. You have almost nothing, yet you look so peaceful. What is your secret?' Madhav replied gently, 'Arjun, I have understood the nature of both worldly pleasures and the transient nature of life. I have learned not to be a slave to desires. By letting go of the attachment to things, I have found the true self.' This realization struck Arjun deeply. He understood that true greatness does not come from what we possess, but from the wisdom to know when to let go and how to live for a higher purpose. He began using his wealth to serve others, finding a joy that no gold could buy. His life became a shining example of grace and virtue for everyone around him.
The Light of True Peace
The story illustrates the Kural's teaching that those who understand the dual nature of life and embrace virtue shine brightly in the world. The greatness of those who have discovered the properties of both states of being, and renounced the world, shines forth on earth (beyond all others)
