In a peaceful village lived a young boy named Arjun. Arjun was a bright boy, but he often thought that having many toys and sweets was the only way to be happy. One sunny afternoon, while playing near the old marketplace, Arjun spotted a heavy leather pouch lying under a bench. He opened it and gasped—it was filled with shiny gold coins!
'If I take this, I can buy the biggest wooden castle and all the candies in the world!' Arjun thought, his heart racing with excitement. He tucked the pouch under his shirt and prepared to run home. Just then, his father, a wise and honest man, walked by and noticed Arjun's nervous behavior.
'Arjun, why are you hiding something?' his father asked gently. When Arjun explained, his father sat him down. 'Listen, son. Happiness gained by taking what belongs to others is like a shadow—it disappears quickly and leaves you with a heavy heart. True joy comes from doing what is right. A stolen joy brings no honor, only regret.'
Arjun looked at the pouch and then at his father's calm face. He realized that the excitement of the gold was being replaced by a strange fear. He decided to follow his father's words. He took the pouch to the village elder, who helped return it to its rightful owner, an elderly widow. The widow wept with joy and blessed Arjun. As Arjun walked home, he felt a lightness in his chest that no toy could ever provide. He realized that the peace of a clear conscience was the greatest happiness of all.
