The story illustrates how those who fake renunciation to gain respect will eventually face the pain of their own dishonesty. The false conduct of those who say they have renounced all desire will one day bring them sorrows that will make them cry out, "Oh! what have we done, what have we done."

In a peaceful village lived a young boy named Sam. Sam’s father was a hardworking farmer. Near the village, under a large banyan tree, lived a man named Silas. Silas always wore white robes and told everyone, 'I have no desires left in this world; I have renounced everything.' The villagers respected him deeply, believing him to be a great saint. However, Sam noticed something strange. While Silas spoke of detachment, he secretly hoarded delicious fruits and gold coins. One afternoon, the villagers gathered to help a poor widow named Martha. Silas arrived, preaching about how worldly goods mean nothing to him. But as soon as the villagers turned away, Silas’s eyes gleamed with greed. He tried to snatch a small bag of grain from Martha’s basket. Sam saw everything. When the truth came out, the villagers were heartbroken and angry. Silas, stripped of his dignity and respect, realized his deception had failed him. He sat under the tree, weeping, 'Oh, what have I done! What have I done!' His false act of renunciation had brought him nothing but shame and sorrow.
