In a peaceful village lived a boy named Leo. He was known for his gentle heart and calm nature. Another boy in the village, Jack, was quite the opposite. Jack often teased Leo and would even snatch his belongings just to see him upset. One afternoon, Leo had spent hours crafting a beautiful clay bird. Seeing this, Jack purposefully knocked it off the table, shattering it into pieces. Leo felt a surge of anger and sadness. For a moment, he thought, 'I should break something of Jack's to show him how it feels.' But then, he paused and thought, 'If I respond to his unkindness with more unkindness, I am no better than him.'
A week later, during a heavy rainstorm, Jack was running home when he slipped and fell heavily into a muddy ditch, twisting his ankle. He cried out in pain. Hearing the cries, Leo didn't hesitate. He ran through the rain, helped Jack out of the ditch, and guided him safely to his porch. Jack’s mother quickly tended to his injury. As Jack sat there, feeling ashamed, he looked at Leo and whispered, 'Leo, I was so mean to you, yet you saved me. Why?' Leo smiled softly and replied, 'Because my heart doesn't know how to return evil with evil. I chose to be kind instead.' Jack realized his mistake, and from that day on, a true friendship blossomed.
