Lost in the Joy

In a bright, green village lived a young boy named Sam. Sam was a kind boy, but he had one little problem: whenever he was extremely happy, he would completely forget everything else around him. One sunny afternoon, Sam's father was busy working in the garden. His mother called out, 'Sam, please stay away from the old well near the bushes. It’s slippery, and you might fall!' Sam nodded and said, 'I'll be careful, Mom!' But a few minutes later, Sam saw a magnificent, glowing butterfly dancing in the air. It was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. As the butterfly fluttered closer, Sam began to chase it, laughing with pure delight. In his excitement and the sheer joy of the chase, he completely forgot his mother's warning. He didn't even notice the slippery path near the well. Suddenly, his foot slipped, and he tumbled into a shallow muddy pit. He wasn't badly hurt, but his knee was scraped, and he was very frightened. His father rushed over to help him up. As Sam sat there, tearfully apologizing, his father gently said, 'Sam, being angry is bad, but forgetting your responsibilities because you are too caught up in joy is even more dangerous. You were so happy chasing that butterfly that you forgot to be careful.' Sam learned that day to enjoy life, but never to let joy cloud his awareness.
