In a peaceful village lived a young boy named Kari. His father was a wise farmer. One evening, while watching his father work, Kari asked, "Father, why do you work so hard even when you are tired?" His father smiled and said, "Kari, in life, there are things you can rest from, and things you must never rest from. You must know the difference."
A few days later, Kari's mother reminded him, "Kari, please finish your science project tonight. It is due tomorrow." "I'll do it later, Mom," Kari replied, running out to play with his friend, Arjun.
Kari had so much fun playing that he forgot all about his project. When he finally came home, he was exhausted. He thought, "I can sleep now; the project can wait until morning." But when he woke up the next morning, he was in a panic. He had to rush through the project, making many mistakes, and felt terrible all day.
Later that week, Kari saw Arjun skipping his football practice because he felt a little lazy. Because Arjun missed his practice, he couldn't play well in the big match on Saturday. Kari realized that while playing with friends was something he could do later, his responsibilities were things he could never afford to delay. From that day on, Kari always finished his important tasks first.
