The King and the Wise Counselor

In the prosperous kingdom of Chandrapur, lived King Vikram. He was a brave warrior, but he had a flaw: he was very proud. He believed that no one was as wise as him. His most trusted advisor was an elderly man named Madhav. Madhav was not just an advisor; he was a true friend who always spoke the truth. One day, a neighboring kingdom requested a small piece of land for a temple. Madhav suggested, "Your Majesty, it is better to grant this request peacefully. Kindness will make us stronger than war." However, Vikram grew angry. "I am the King! My word is the final law!" he shouted. Madhav gently warned, "Greatness is not in commanding others, but in respecting the wisdom of those who guide you." Vikram ignored him and chose to go to war instead. The war was long and costly. Vikram’s pride led him to make many mistakes on the battlefield. Eventually, his kingdom weakened, and he lost his throne. Sitting alone in the ruins of his palace, he realized that by insulting the wise man who truly cared for him, he had destroyed himself. He learned too late that even a king can fall if he offends the great ones who support him.
