The Golden Burden

In a peaceful valley lived a boy named Arjun. His family was the wealthiest in the village, owning vast lands and grand houses. Arjun had everything a child could desire—fine silks, rare toys, and the best food. However, instead of being grateful, Arjun became very arrogant. He would walk past other children with a sneer, saying, 'Don't touch my clothes; they are worth more than your whole house!' One day, the village held a traditional kite-flying competition. Arjun, confident in his status, boasted loudly, 'I don't need to practice. My family's name alone makes me a winner!' Because he was too busy showing off his expensive kite and looking down on others, he failed to notice the wind changing. His kite tangled in a tree, and he tripped while trying to chase it. As the other children helped him up, he snapped at them, 'I don't need help from people like you!' His father, seeing this, sat him down that evening. 'Arjun,' he said gently, 'wealth and high birth are like sunlight. If you are a good person, they help you grow. But if you are unkind, they only serve to make your pride grow even larger.' Arjun realized that his riches hadn't made him great; they had only made him lonely and proud. From that day on, he learned to value kindness over possessions.
