In a lush green meadow, a large flock of sheep lived peacefully. Their leader was an old, wise ram who always looked after the safety of the group. As the rainy season approached, the sheep worked hard to gather and store plenty of dried grass and grains to ensure they wouldn't go hungry.
One afternoon, a wild mountain goat wandered near the meadow. Seeing the abundance of food, the mountain goat approached the flock and said, 'I see you have plenty of grain stored. I am hungry; please share some with me.' The wise ram replied kindly, 'We are sorry, friend, but we must save this food for the coming rains. We need every bit to keep our young ones safe.'
The mountain goat grew angry at the refusal. He tried to use fear to get what he wanted. 'If you don't give me the grain, I will call my friend, the wolf! He will come here and hunt your entire flock!' he threatened.
The wise ram did not tremble. He looked the mountain goat in the eye and said calmly, 'Whether you call the wolf or not, a predator will eventually come looking for us. But if we give in to your threats now, we will lose our food and our peace. Your words cannot change the nature of the world, nor can they scare us into making a mistake.'
Realizing that his trickery had failed against such calm logic, the mountain goat felt ashamed and wandered away. The flock remained safe, protected by their leader's wisdom.
Moral
Wisdom and calmness are better weapons against threats than fear.
