In a peaceful village by a sparkling blue lake lived a kind fisherman named Kavi. Kavi was a man of simple needs, always content with what he had. His wife, Maya, however, was never satisfied. No matter how much Kavi brought home, Maya always wanted more fine silks, more jewelry, and more gold.

One sunny morning, while Kavi was casting his nets, he caught something extraordinary—a shimmering golden fish. To his absolute amazement, the fish spoke! 'Please, kind fisherman, let me go back to my home in the lake, and I shall be your friend forever,' the fish pleaded.

Kavi, being a gentle soul, felt pity for the tiny creature and released it back into the water. When he told Maya about this, she was furious. 'You foolish man! You could have asked that magical fish for a grand mansion! Why did you let it go?' she scolded.

Reluctantly, Kavi returned to the lake. He called out to the golden fish, and it appeared, granting them a beautiful, sturdy new house. But Maya’s greed only grew. 'A house is not enough! I want a magnificent palace with golden gates!' she demanded. Kavi went back to the lake, and the fish, honoring its word, transformed their home into a palace.

Soon, Maya’s desires became impossible. 'I want a floating palace that lives high up among the clouds!' she insisted. Kavi felt a heavy heart but went to the lake one last time. The fish granted the wish, but when Kavi returned, the palace was gone. The house had floated away into the sky, leaving them with nothing but an empty patch of land.

Terrified and regretful, Maya realized her mistakes. Kavi went to the lake and said, 'I don't want palaces or clouds. I only wish for my wife to be happy and content with our simple life.' The golden fish smiled and said, 'Now you are asking for something truly valuable.' With a splash of magic, their old, simple cottage reappeared. Maya was a changed woman, learning that true wealth lies in peace and togetherness.
