Deep within the sapphire ocean, there was a time when every sea creature possessed strong bones and sturdy frames. The vast kingdom was ruled by a mighty Shark King. He had a beloved little daughter, the princess of the tides. One morning, the princess fell gravely ill, becoming too weak to even swim. The King was heartbroken and desperate to save her.
He summoned all the healers in the ocean and declared, "Whoever finds the cure for my daughter shall be granted the highest honor in my court!"
Many skilled healers tried their potions and herbs, but nothing worked. Finally, a wise old Sea Turtle physician spoke up. "Your Majesty, there is only one remedy. We need the essence of a rare forest leaf found only on the land where monkeys dwell."
The King sighed, knowing no sea creature could travel to the land. Just then, a boastful Jellyfish leader, who had been bragging about his superior abilities, was summoned. "I can go to the land!" the Jellyfish claimed arrogantly. To test his claim, the King commanded, "Then go and bring the leaf immediately!"
Terrified of being exposed as a liar, the Jellyfish sent a small, clever Jellyfish to do the task. The little one swam to the shore and saw a monkey eating fruit. "Great Monkey!" the Jellyfish called out. "The Sea King is hosting a grand feast for his birthday, and you are invited!"
The monkey was curious but cautious. "I cannot breathe underwater," he replied. The Jellyfish quickly lied, "The feast is on a nearby island, and we shall form a living bridge for you to walk upon!"
Enticed by the idea of a royal feast, the monkey devised a plan. "I will come, but I must leave my special snack inside a hollow tree to keep it safe. Please meet me there."
When the Jellyfish and its companions arrived at the tree, the monkey swung down with a heavy branch. He struck the soft creatures to drive them away. The Jellyfish, having no hard bones to protect them, were badly hurt and scrambled back to the sea in fear.
When the King heard of the failed mission and the Jellyfish's lies, he realized they were not worthy of their pride. As a consequence of their trickery and the encounter with the monkey, the Jellyfish lost their structural strength. From that day on, they have lived without bones, drifting softly through the waves.
Moral
Pride leads to downfall, and dishonesty brings unexpected consequences.
