In the heart of a lush green forest lay the Sparkling Lake, a peaceful home to many colorful fish, tiny crabs, and happy frogs. However, the peace was often broken by a massive, boastful crocodile named Kalu. Kalu believed that because he was the largest creature in the lake, he owned everything and could do whatever he pleased with the smaller animals.
One sunny afternoon, a small, gentle frog named Pip was resting peacefully on a wide lotus leaf. Suddenly, Kalu swam close to the edge and, just for fun, slapped his heavy tail against the water. The resulting wave sent the lotus leaf, with Pip on it, flying into the air. Pip landed hard on the muddy bank, feeling shaken and hurt.
"Why would you do such a thing?" Pip cried out, trembling with anger. "Being big doesn't give you the right to be unkind to us!" But Kalu only laughed a deep, mocking laugh and prepared to splash Pip again. Pip realized that fighting Kalu with strength was impossible, but he wasn't ready to give up.
A clever crow named Corvus, who had been watching from a nearby willow tree, flew down to Pip the next morning. "Listen, Pip," Corvus whispered. "We cannot fight him with muscles, but we can fight him with wit. Kalu is a creature of habit; he comes to the surface to breathe and sun himself. We can use that against him."
Corvus proposed a plan. They would take small pieces of lotus leaves, float them across the lake, and coat them with spicy chili powder. When Kalu surfaced, the stinging powder would hit his sensitive eyes.
Following the plan, Pip gathered small leaf fragments, and Corvus flew to a nearby village to collect dried chili powder. They carefully sprinkled the spicy dust onto the floating leaves until the surface of the lake was dotted with them. When Kalu emerged from the depths to take a breath, the wind blew the fine chili powder directly into his eyes.
"Aah! My eyes! It burns!" Kalu roared, thrashing wildly in the water and on the shore. He had never felt such discomfort. Pip hopped forward bravely. "This is what happens when you use your strength to bully the weak, Kalu. If you continue to trouble us, we will find even stronger ways to protect our home."
Kalu, humbled and defeated by his own arrogance, realized that even the smallest creatures could stand up to him. He promised to leave the smaller animals in peace. From that day on, the Sparkling Lake became a place of true harmony.
