In a peaceful village near a lush forest, lived a kind farmer named Ravi and his wife. They shared their home with a brave little mongoose who was as much a part of the family as any pet. The mongoose had a special bond with their infant child, watching over the baby with incredible gentleness and care.
One sunny afternoon, Ravi and his wife needed to visit the local market to buy supplies. Knowing how much they trusted the mongoose, they said, "Stay close to the cradle and keep our little one safe," before heading out.
The mongoose sat faithfully by the wooden cradle. However, a long, dark cobra began to slither silently through the grass, heading straight toward the sleeping baby. Seeing the danger, the mongoose didn't hesitate for a second. It leaped with incredible speed, intercepting the snake just inches away from the child.
A fierce struggle ensued. The mongoose fought with all its might to protect the baby. Eventually, the mongoose defeated the snake, but in the process, the predator's blood stained its fur and face.
When Ravi and his wife returned, they saw red stains on the floor and the mongoose standing there with blood on its mouth. Panicked and assuming the worst, Ravi's wife cried out, "The mongoose has hurt our baby!" In a fit of blind rage and fear, she grabbed a heavy stick and struck the poor creature.
As the mongoose lay trembling, Ravi looked toward the cradle. To his shock, the baby was sleeping peacefully, untouched. His eyes then drifted to the floor, where the lifeless cobra lay defeated.
Realizing that the mongoose had actually been their child's hero, the couple fell to their knees in deep regret. They had punished the very soul that had risked everything to save their most precious treasure.
