Once upon a time, there ruled a mighty King Vikram who was known for his justice. However, one day, a sudden desire for magnificent, glittering gemstones took hold of his heart. His ministers, eager to please him, scrambled to find the finest jewels in the land.

One ambitious minister visited a wealthy gem merchant and tricked him. He convinced the merchant to sell a massive, dazzling diamond for a tiny fraction of its true value. The merchant, feeling cheated and losing a great deal of money, went to the royal court to seek justice. Seeing the merchant's distress, the wise advisor, Dharma, stepped in to help.

"Do not lose hope, merchant," Dharma said kindly. "I have a plan to settle this fairly." Dharma took a large, high-quality sugar crystal and carefully carved it into the shape of a magnificent jewel. He polished it until it sparkled just like a real diamond. "We shall present this to the King as a special gift," Dharma suggested.

The next morning, while King Vikram was walking through his royal gardens, Dharma approached him with the shimmering object. "Your Majesty! Behold this extraordinary, glowing jewel! It would look magnificent upon your robes," Dharma proclaimed.

Captivated by its brilliance, the King accepted the jewel and wore it for a short while. However, as the morning sun grew warmer and the dew evaporated, the sugar jewel began to melt. When the King went to admire it again, the jewel had completely vanished!

"Where is my diamond?" the King cried out in confusion and anger. "It was right here!" Dharma calmly approached the throne. "Your Majesty, that jewel was a fleeting illusion, much like a sudden desire. But the merchant is still waiting for his rightful payment. Let us ensure the merchant is not wronged by our mistake."

The King realized that his greed had led to a situation where a merchant was cheated. Understanding the lesson, he ordered his treasury to pay the merchant the full, fair price for the original diamond. The merchant left the palace relieved and happy, and King Vikram learned that true wealth lies in honesty, not in the pursuit of illusions.
