In the heart of a lush green forest, there flowed a crystal-clear stream that served as the lifeblood for all the creatures. One sunny afternoon, a large herd of elephants arrived at the stream. In their excitement to play and cool down, they stomped heavily into the water, churning up the mud and turning the sparkling stream into a murky, brown mess.
A colony of tiny ants lived near the bank, watching in dismay. The leader of the ants approached the massive elephants and said, "Great giants, please be careful. This stream belongs to everyone in the forest. If you stir up all this mud, the other animals won't be able to drink clean water."
The elephants laughed, their voices booming through the trees. "You are so small, little ones! What do you know about the forest?" they trumpeted, continuing to splash around carelessly.
The next day, the elephants returned, feeling thirsty. Seeing an opportunity to teach a lesson, the ants worked together. They used small, sturdy leaves as tiny rafts to float down the stream toward the elephants. As the elephants lowered their trunks into the water to drink, the ants climbed carefully inside the sensitive part of their trunks and gave them tiny, sharp bites.
"Ouch! Help!" the elephants cried out in pain. They couldn't get the stinging sensation to stop. They trumpeted in distress and tried to shake their trunks, but the ants were too quick. It was only then that the elephants realized that even the smallest creatures could cause great trouble if ignored. They felt ashamed of their behavior and apologized to the ants, promising to protect the stream's purity for everyone.
