Arjun was a shy boy who often felt he wasn't good enough. Whether it was speaking in class or trying a new sport, a tiny voice in his head always whispered, "You can't do it."
One afternoon, his father took him to the city zoo. As they walked past the enclosures, Arjun noticed a massive elephant standing calmly near a wooden fence. He was puzzled to see that the giant animal was held back by nothing more than a thin, frayed rope tied to its leg.
"Dad, look!" Arjun pointed. "That elephant is huge! Why isn't it tied with a heavy iron chain? That little rope looks like it could snap in a second."
An old zookeeper, who was nearby, overheard them and walked over. "It's a strange sight, isn't it?" the keeper said kindly. "Years ago, when this elephant was just a calf, we used a rope exactly like that one to keep it in place. Back then, the little elephant wasn't strong enough to break free. It tried many times and failed."
He continued, "The elephant never forgot those failures. It grew into a powerful giant, capable of uprooting trees, but in its mind, it still believes that the thin rope is an unbreakable barrier. It doesn't try to break free because it thinks it simply can't."
Arjun stared at the elephant. He realized that the elephant wasn't trapped by the rope, but by its own memory of failing. He felt a sudden spark of understanding. Just like the elephant, he had been letting his past fears hold him back from his true strength. From that day on, Arjun decided to try new things, knowing that his potential was much greater than his fears.
Moral
Do not let past failures limit your future potential.
