Long ago, in a lush green forest, lived a young elephant named Gajav. Unlike the elephants we see today, the elephants of that time did not have long trunks. They had to bend their heads low to the ground and use only their mouths to scoop up water. This made drinking a very slow and difficult task.
One summer, a terrible drought hit the forest. The rivers dried up, leaving only one large, blue pond where animals could find water. Because everyone was thirsty, the pond became a crowded and chaotic place. To make matters worse, a grumpy crocodile lived in that very pond.
Every time Gajav went to the pond to quench his thirst, the crocodile would suddenly lunge from the water, snapping its jaws near Gajav's face. 'Snap! Splash!' The sudden movement terrified Gajav, and he would run away in fear, leaving his thirst unquenched. The other animals, like the deer and rabbits, could drink quickly and leave, but Gajav’s slow way of drinking made him an easy target for the crocodile's bullying.
Feeling helpless and sad, Gajav sat under a large banyan tree. 'I am too slow and too weak,' he sighed. He prayed for strength and a way to drink without fear. That night, in a peaceful dream, a wise spirit appeared and said, 'Gajav, your strength will not come from your muscles, but from your determination. When you face your fear, the world will change for you.'
The next morning, Gajav walked toward the pond with a new sense of purpose. When he reached the water's edge, the crocodile saw him and prepared his usual trick. The crocodile lunged forward with a loud 'Snap!' But this time, Gajav did not run. He stood his ground, eyes fixed on the water. The crocodile was confused. 'Why isn't he running?' it wondered.
Determined to finish his task, Gajav reached forward with his face. As he pushed against the water with effort, something miraculous happened. His nose began to stretch and grow longer and stronger. It transformed into a magnificent trunk!
With his new trunk, Gajav could now suck up water easily and spray it into his mouth. When the crocodile tried one last time to scare him, Gajav used his powerful trunk to spray a huge blast of water directly at the crocodile. 'Whoosh!' The crocodile was knocked backward into the deep mud, far away from the drinking spot. Gajav was finally able to drink in peace, and he realized that his courage had given him a wonderful new gift.
Moral
Courage and determination can transform even the greatest obstacles into strengths.
