In a peaceful village lived two sisters, Diya and Kia. Diya was hardworking and kind-hearted, while Kia was lazy and selfish. Their stepmother favored Kia and treated Diya like a servant. One day, the stepmother pushed Diya out of the house, telling her to go and earn money to support the family.
As Diya walked through the forest, an old Banyan tree spoke to her. "Little girl, could you help me by removing these dry, broken branches?" it asked. Diya climbed the tree and carefully cleared the branches. Next, a tangled grapevine asked for help to clear its old, withered vines. Diya helped, and in return, the vine offered her sweet grape juice.
Continuing her journey, Diya found a broken clay stove. She gathered clay from a nearby pond and repaired it. She then came across a dirty, neglected well. Diya used a bucket to clean the well's walls, making the water clear again. On her way, she found a shivering, muddy puppy. Instead of walking past, she took it to a stream, washed it, and fed it.
Eventually, Diya reached a magnificent palace belonging to magical fairies. They offered her a job, saying, "Clean these rooms, but never, ever open the seventh door." Diya worked diligently for a year. When she expressed her longing to see her father, the fairies kindly led her to the seventh room. Inside, it was filled with gold coins and sparkling jewels. They told her, "Take what you need to live happily forever."
On her way home, the puppy she had saved led her to a hidden treasure. Diya, being wise, took only what was necessary. As she traveled, the clay stove provided her with warm food, the well gave her cool water, and the grapevine gave her fresh fruit, all as thanks for her earlier kindness.
When Kia's stepmother heard of Diya's wealth, she greedily sent Kia out to do the same. However, Kia refused to help anyone. She ignored the tree, the vine, the stove, and the well. When she reached the fairy palace, she greedily opened the seventh door, only to find a room full of angry bees and dust! Even the puppy refused to help her when she was chased by bees. Kia returned home empty-handed and ashamed, realizing that her laziness had cost her everything.
