In a peaceful village lived a young boy named Kari. Kari was a bright and energetic boy, but he often wondered how he could become famous and important one day.
One sunny afternoon, while playing near the edge of the forest, Kari spotted something shiny in the grass. It was a heavy leather pouch. When he opened it, his eyes widened in surprise—it was filled with gold coins! For a moment, a thought crossed his mind: 'If I keep this, I can buy everything I want and everyone will think I am rich and powerful.'
But then, he remembered his father's gentle voice. His father always said, 'Kari, wealth gained through dishonesty is like sand slipping through your fingers, but a good character is a treasure that stays forever.' Kari realized that if he kept the money, he might be rich, but he would lose the respect of his family and his own self-respect.
Taking a deep breath, Kari decided to do the right thing. He carried the pouch to the village elder. It turned out the pouch belonged to a traveling merchant who was very distressed. When the merchant saw Kari's honesty, he was moved by the boy's integrity. Instead of just thanking him, the merchant helped fund Kari's education and supported his family.
Kari learned that day that true greatness doesn't come from what you possess, but from how you behave.
