In a peaceful valley lived a young boy named Leo and his father, Thomas. Thomas was a wise man who taught Leo the value of truth. One afternoon, while walking near a stream, Leo spotted something sparkling intensely in the mud. 'Father, look! I have found a treasure of pure gold!' Leo cried out, his eyes wide with excitement.
Thomas picked up the object and examined it closely. 'Leo, this is not gold. It is just a piece of quartz that reflects the sunlight beautifully. It is an illusion,' he said gently. But Leo was stubborn. He believed the sparkle was proof of its worth. 'No, Father! It’s real! We can be rich with this!' He began to treat the stone as if it were his most precious possession, neglecting his chores and his friends to guard it.
As days passed, Leo became obsessed. He thought this stone would solve all his problems. However, a heavy storm arrived one night. When the sun rose the next day, the stone was covered in thick, dark mud. The brilliant sparkle was gone, and it looked like nothing more than a dull, grey pebble. Leo sat by the stream and wept, feeling cheated by the stone.
Thomas sat beside him and said, 'Leo, the mistake wasn't finding the stone; the mistake was believing that something temporary and deceptive was permanent and real. When we mistake shadows for substance, we lose our way.' Leo realized that he had chased a dream that didn't exist. From that day on, he learned to look beyond the surface to find what truly matters.
