One summer, King Karikalan from a neighboring kingdom arrived for a grand feast. Karikalan was a master of charm. He smiled brightly and spoke sweet words, saying, 'I value our friendship above all else!' To everyone else, he seemed like a true friend. However, Ilango noticed something different. While Karikalan's mouth was smiling, his eyes remained cold and sharp. Whenever he spoke of peace, his eyes would flicker with a momentary flash of greed and resentment.
King Veerapanthan whispered to Ilango, 'He seems like a wonderful guest, doesn't he?' Ilango replied softly, 'Your Majesty, words can be rehearsed, but eyes cannot lie. His eyes do not reflect friendship; they reflect a hidden plan to take what is ours.'
