In a peaceful village lived a young boy named Arjun and his family. Arjun's father was a very successful merchant. One evening, while watching the sunset, Arjun asked, 'Father, we have everything we need. We have a big house, plenty of food, and fine clothes. Why do we need anyone else?'
His father smiled and led him to a small wooden toy in the corner of the room—a dancing puppet. 'Look at this puppet, Arjun,' his father said. 'It moves, it dances, and it looks alive. But without someone pulling the strings, it would just be a piece of wood. It has no soul of its own.'
The next morning, while walking to the market, Arjun saw an elderly man sitting by the roadside, looking frail and hungry. Without thinking, Arjun went to his bag, took out a piece of fruit, and handed it to him. The old man looked up, his eyes twinkling with gratitude, and whispered, 'Thank you, child. You have a kind soul.'
In that moment, Arjun felt a warmth in his chest that no toy or gold could ever provide. He realized that if everyone were self-sufficient and no one ever needed help, the world would be like that puppet—moving through motions, but lacking the true, living connection of human kindness. Helping others gave his life a real pulse.
