The Pride of Madhav

In a peaceful village, a hardworking farmer named Madhav lived with his wife, Meera, and their beloved cow, Lakshmi. Madhav took great pride in his self-reliance. However, a severe drought hit the village, and the wells ran dry. One scorching afternoon, Madhav noticed Lakshmi, his cow, looking weak and thirsty. There wasn't a drop of water left in their small trough. Madhav felt a deep conflict. He knew his neighbor, Somu, had a deep well, but the thought of asking for help felt like a heavy weight on his heart. He thought, 'If I ask for water for my animal, what will people say about my dignity?' But seeing Lakshmi's suffering, he finally swallowed his pride and went to Somu to ask for water. Somu kindly helped him. While Lakshmi drank and regained her strength, Madhav felt a strange sting of shame. He realized that even asking for something as simple as water for a creature was a blow to his independence. From that day on, Madhav worked even harder, ensuring he would never have to rely on the charity of others again, valuing his dignity above all else.
