Chasing the Moonbeams

In a peaceful valley lived a young girl named Maya. Maya had a best friend named Leo, and they were inseparable. One summer, Leo’s family had to move to a distant city for a year. For Maya, every day felt heavy. She spent her afternoons sitting by the old oak tree, staring at the road, waiting for a boy who wasn't coming that day. She stopped playing with her dolls, stopped painting, and even stopped eating her favorite mangoes. She spent all her energy longing for Leo's presence. Her mother, Sarah, noticed her fading smile. 'Maya, why do you spend your sunshine hours mourning the past or waiting for someone far away?' she asked gently. Maya only replied, 'I can't be happy without him.' When Leo finally returned a year later, Maya was overjoyed to see him, but she realized something sad. She had lost a whole year of laughter and joy because she was too busy being sad about his absence. She looked at Leo and realized that her constant sorrow hadn't brought him back any faster; it had only stolen her own happiness.
