In a peaceful village lived a bright young man named Somu. One evening, as Somu was walking home from work, he noticed four shadowy figures lurking behind the bushes near his house. He realized immediately that they were thieves waiting for a chance to strike.
Instead of panicking, Somu decided to use his wits. He quietly slipped into his house and whispered to his wife, "Listen, there are thieves hiding outside. We must act naturally. Just follow my lead and speak loudly enough for them to hear."
Somu then called out loudly, "Oh dear! There is so much theft happening in the village lately. We must hide our gold and jewelry in this heavy iron chest and drop it into the deep well in our garden. That way, even if thieves come, they will find nothing!"
To make it look real, Somu carried a heavy chest filled with large stones to the well and dropped it with a loud 'splash!' The thieves, watching from the shadows, were delighted. "This is perfect!" their leader whispered. "We don't even need to break into the house. We just need to fish that chest out of the well!"
As night turned into dawn, the thieves approached the well. Seeing the water was high, the leader suggested, "Let's bail out the water into the nearby fields so we can reach the chest easily."
One by one, the thieves began scooping water out of the well. However, no matter how much water they removed, the level in the well never seemed to go down. This was because there was a small hole at the bottom of the well that connected to an underground spring, causing water to flow back in as fast as they took it out. Exhausted and frustrated, the thieves said, "The well is too deep. Let's come back tomorrow."
Just then, Somu stepped out from behind a tree and said with a smile, "Please, don't stop! The water you are pouring is wonderful for my crops. Please keep going!"
The thieves realized they had been tricked by Somu's clever plan. Terrified of being caught, they scrambled away into the forest and never returned. Somu had saved his home using nothing but his intelligence.
