In a vast, green forest lived a hedgehog named Spiky. Spiky was a kind-hearted fellow, but he had one major problem: he had no safe place to sleep as the cold winds of winter were approaching. He spent his days searching for a cozy burrow, but every hole he found was already taken.

One afternoon, Spiky spotted a deep, dry crevice between two large rocks. It looked perfect! However, as he got closer, he realized it was the home of a group of large, slithering snakes. Spiky’s heart raced with fear, but his need for shelter was stronger.

He approached the entrance cautiously and called out, "Excuse me, Great Serpents! I am lost and homeless. Would you allow me to share this rocky shelter with you? I promise to stay in my corner and never disturb your peace."

The snakes hissed among themselves. They were wary of Spiky's sharp quills, but they felt a bit of pity for the shivering little creature. "Very well," the eldest snake replied. "You may stay, but keep your distance."

Spiky was overjoyed and scurried into the narrow space. But as he squeezed through the tight gap, disaster struck. His sharp, needle-like quills poked into the soft bodies of the sleeping snakes. The snakes let out sharp hisses of pain as they were pricked by the tiny needles.

It became impossible for the snakes to rest. Every time Spiky moved, the snakes were stung. Realizing that having a hedgehog in their home was more painful than being homeless, the snakes decided to leave the crevice and find a new place where they wouldn't be constantly poked. Spiky found his home, but his very nature made it impossible to live in peace with others.
