In a lush, green forest, lived a lively squirrel named Chiku. Chiku had two best friends: a gentle rabbit named Bunty and a wise old owl named Hoot. They spent their days playing hide-and-seek among the tall trees and flowering bushes.
One sunny afternoon, while playing near Bunty's cozy burrow, Chiku accidentally scurried inside. On a small wooden shelf sat Bunty’s most prized possession—a beautifully painted clay pot. As Chiku zoomed past, his bushy tail swiped the pot, sending it crashing to the ground. Crash! The pot shattered into several pieces.
Chiku’s heart raced. 'Oh no! Bunty loves this pot more than anything!' he thought, trembling with fear. Instead of telling the truth, Chiku panicked. He quickly gathered the broken pieces and hid them inside a hollow knot of an old oak tree, hoping Bunty wouldn't notice.
When Bunty returned to his burrow and found the pot missing, his ears drooped in sadness. He searched everywhere, feeling lost and confused. Seeing Bunty so upset made Chiku feel terrible, but he was too scared to speak up. Finally, Chiku ran to Hoot the owl for advice.
'Hoot, I've done something terrible. Should I tell Bunty?' Chiku whispered. Hoot looked down with kind eyes. 'Chiku, breaking something by accident is a mistake. But hiding the truth to avoid trouble is a much bigger mistake. An accident can be forgiven, but a lie breaks trust. Go to Bunty, tell him exactly what happened, and ask for his forgiveness.'
With trembling paws, Chiku approached Bunty. 'Bunty, please forgive me,' Chiku said softly. 'I accidentally broke your clay pot while playing. I was so scared you would be angry that I hid the pieces in the oak tree. I am sorry for breaking it and for not being honest with you.'
Bunty looked at Chiku for a moment and then smiled warmly. 'Chiku, I was sad about the pot, but I would have been much sadder if I thought you were keeping secrets from me. I forgive you because you were brave enough to tell the truth.'
Together, the two friends gathered the pieces and used colorful forest resins and paints to mend the pot. It looked even more beautiful than before, decorated with new patterns. Chiku realized that being honest was much better than carrying the weight of a secret.
Moral
