In a lush, green forest lived a little rabbit named Chinnu. Chinnu was not just fast, but also very observant. One afternoon, while hopping through the bushes, he noticed all the forest animals gathered under the Great Banyan Tree, looking very worried.
'Our old king is getting too old to lead us,' the elephant trumpeted sadly. The animals were in a dilemma; they needed a new leader, but no one knew who was fit to rule.
Chinnu approached them and suggested, 'Why don't we hold a contest? Each of you should bring the most useful thing you possess. The one whose gift helps everyone the most shall be our leader.'
Chinnu went home and thought hard. He remembered his grandmother’s special herbal mixture, which could soothe any pain and induce a very deep, peaceful sleep. 'This is the most valuable thing because it can save lives,' Chinnu thought.
On the day of the contest, animals brought shiny stones, colorful feathers, and sweet fruits. Suddenly, a loud noise echoed through the woods. Hunters were approaching with nets and traps! The animals panicked, trembling in fear.
'Listen to me!' Chinnu shouted over the noise. 'If we run, they will catch us. But if we all drink this herbal mixture and pretend to be lifeless, they will think we are sick and leave us alone!'
Trusting Chinnu, the animals drank the mixture and lay still on the ground. When the hunters arrived, they saw the animals lying motionless. 'Oh no!' one hunter cried. 'These animals look like they have died from a disease. We cannot touch them, or we might get sick too!' Fearing for their own safety, the hunters ran away.
Once the danger had passed, the animals woke up and realized that Chinnu had saved them all. They wanted to crown him King, but Chinnu shook his head gently. 'A single king cannot do everything. Let us work together instead.'
From that day on, the forest changed. The elephants and tigers looked after the borders, the smaller animals managed the food and plants, and the birds kept the forest clean. By sharing responsibilities, the forest became a happy, self-sustaining home for everyone.
