In a peaceful village, a farmer named Somu lived with his two companions: a loyal dog named Sheru and a hardworking donkey named Bholu. Sheru was responsible for guarding the farm, while Bholu helped Somu by carrying heavy sacks of grain from the fields.
One moonlit night, Sheru heard a rustling in the bushes. He quickly realized that a group of wild boars had entered the farm to destroy the crops. Sheru barked loudly and fiercely, alerting the entire farm. Somu rushed out with a torch and a stick, successfully chasing the boars away. Seeing how Sheru had saved his hard work, Somu felt immense gratitude and gave Sheru a delicious, extra meal that night.
Bholu the donkey watched this from the stable. A greedy thought entered his mind. 'Sheru doesn't carry any heavy loads, yet he gets extra treats just by barking! If I start making noise whenever I hear something, Somu will surely give me more food too,' Bholu thought.
From that day on, Bholu became very restless. Even if a tiny leaf fell or a breeze blew, Bholu would bray loudly and uncontrollably. This constant noise made it impossible for Somu to sleep or rest. Confused and tired, Somu went to seek advice from a wise old man in the village.
The wise man listened and said, "Somu, every creature has its own purpose. A dog is meant to guard, and a donkey is meant to carry. If you try to treat them exactly the same, you will lose the benefits of both. Let the dog be the guard and the donkey be the worker. When they do what they are meant to do, they will both be happy."
Somu understood the lesson. He stopped worrying about Bholu's noise and focused on rewarding the hard work of both animals. Sheru continued to be a brave guard, and Bholu returned to his duty of carrying loads. They both found contentment in doing what they did best.
